"She keeps it simple and I am thankful for her kind of loving, 'cause it's simple. No longer do we wonder if we're together - we're way past that - and I've already asked her ..."We spent the afternoon of June 12th sharing chicken fajitas and watching the USA v. England game at Pelancho's in west Knoxville. When the US scored, Travis jumped out of his chair and threw a napkin in the air and caught it. Final score: 1-1
Later that evening we went to Ye Olde Steakhouse for dinner, and drove back into town to watch the sunset from the observation deck of the Sunsphere. Unfortunately, the temperature inside the Sunsphere felt comparable to the surface temperature of the actual sun: 6,000 degrees Kelvin. It was crowded and there were many chlorinated children running around, and I (Kirby) felt a little light-headed. Travis could tell I was not okay, so he took me back down to the World's Fair Park, where we walked around for a few minutes.
We stopped to use the restroom, and I put my sweaty face under the hand dryer for a few minutes to dry off a little, then headed to the car because Travis was concerned about my well-being and thought air conditioning would be the best option. From there we drove to the top of the 11th Street Parking Garage to watch the sun set from there. We listened to some of our favorite Avett Brothers songs and he pointed out some buildings in the Knoxville skyline (to distract me while he stealthily removed the ring from his pocket).
Just as the sun was disappearing, our song came on, and he said simply, "Kirby Lee, will you marry me?" I smiled, nodded, and replied, "Indubitably." Then we danced to our song from the top of a Parking Garage in downtown Knoxville in the fading light of the day.
"... So in January, we're getting married."
